Aloha Mr. Drew

Hey y’all. Meet Mr. Drew, an Arduino-based drawing machine or (even better) “drawbot” that is driven with an application written in a program called Processing. Mr. Drew was created especially for artist Judith Cottrell, whose 12.1 Window Works exhibition here at Artpace will feature the smart little device.

Cottrell’s drawbot was built (and named) by Darcy Whyte, who also wrote the code for the particular type of “scribble” line used in this window project. Whyte is an inventor, artist, and programmer who runs his own model airplane business in Ottawa, Canada.

To learn more about drawing machines, check out the mobile site Cottrell developed to accompany her exhibition, which opens next Thursday, January 12 in Artpace’s Main Avenue windows. (Scan the QR code from your phone. It’s fun.)
