Alumni Update: IAIR 99.4 Christian Marclay

Past resident artist Christian Marclay has been awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for his work, The Clock.

The Clock is a film montage that runs for 24  hours and uses clips from cinema and television to depict the passage of time.  Each clip from the movie shows various times on the screen that reflects the real time for the audience viewing it.

Christian Marclay is best known for his sound collages and video installations.  For his Artpace installation, the artist compiled a collection of around 900 vinyl LP’s of Christmas music.  He transformed his studio space into an auditorium equipped with turntables, a sound system, and cushions on the floor.  After the opening, where Marclay and local djs scratched and mixed Christmas music, the event was held weekly throughout the time of the exhibition.
