Artpace collaborates with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center

We are only one day away from the opening of Artpace’s 11.2 International Artist-in-Residence exhibition, featuring the work of Andrea Büttner, Kurt Mueller, and Adrian Williams. The July 14 festivities commence at 6pm and include a performance of Williams’s new audioplay at 6:30pm, and the Artists’ Dialogue moderated by guest curator Chus Martínez at 7:30pm. Artpace Fresh Art First Members are invited to The Monterey Members-only Lounge, where food and refreshments will be provided by the Artpace Alliance restaurant.

The following day, Friday, July 15, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center presents an exhibition, By Permit Only, that empowers artists to take the unauthorized postering methods of street artists inside the museum. Eleven artists translate their specific visual vocabulary into large graphic posters wheat-pasted on gallery walls and the exterior facades of both the GCAC Gallery and Artpace San Antonio to illustrate the alternating impacts art has whether it’s on a gallery wall or an alley wall.

In collaboration with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, Michael Velliquette’s Untitled (Sigil of Wealth and Prosperity) was recently installed in the Artpace courtyard. So, join us for an upcoming Taco Friday to see this wheat-paste piece by our IAIR 04.1 alum, which will be on view through November 19, 2011.

In addition to Michael Velliquette, Joshua Bienko (WW 11.1), Devon Dikeou (IAIR 11.1), Beto Gonzales (HSR), Ethel Shipton (WW), and Anne Wallace (IAIR 04.3) are Artpace alums among the 11 participating artists in the exhibition at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.

Kaleidoscope Kids, a collaboration between the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and students of Camp Artpace II, will be displayed alongside the By Permit Only exhibition. Directed by San Antonio photographer, Mari Hernandez, Artpace campers learned elements of photography and wheat paste techniques. In pairs, campers subsequently created their own wheat pasted photos.

By Permit Only was curated by Patty Ortiz and is supported by the Linda Pace Foundation and American Color Labs, in collaboration with Artpace San Antonio.
