THE IDEA FUND WORKSHOP
Artpace has partnered up with The Idea Fund, which provides cash awards of $4,000 to 10 Texas-based, artist-generated or artist-centered projects that exemplify the unconventional, interventionist, conceptual, entrepreneurial, participatory, or guerrilla artistic practices that occur outside the traditional framework of support. Join us for an informative Idea Fund Workshop at Artpace from 6:30 to 8pm TONIGHT to learn more. No sign-up required.
ARTSPIRE PRESENTATION
Our neighbors at the Southwest School of Art are hosting a free presentation at 7pm on Thursday, September 15, featuring Eleanor Whitney, Program Officer at Artspire, a project of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). Open to the public, the program will address fundraising and support resources for artists in all disciplines (visual, performing, and literary, as well as filmmakers) and at every stage in their careers. Small or emerging arts organizations are also encouraged to attend.
The presentation will cover how to use NYFA Source, a database of over 9,000 entries, listing awards, services, calls for entries, and other resources for artists. It will also describe Artspire’s fiscal sponsorship program, its national job, event and opportunity classifieds, and publications such as NYFA Current, an electronic magazine about art by artists. Contact the Southwest School for more details.
ARTPACE ARTIST WORKSHOP
On Thursday, October 13, Artpace presents an Artist Workshop that breaks away from the traditional lecture-style format and instead provides valuable information through a series of informal sessions throughout the building. Our workshop will feature face time with Devon Dikeou, Jimmy LeFlore, and Lawrence Markey.
Artpace 11.1 International Artist-in-Residence Dikeou will offer a working artist’s perspective, as an established artist who is also the editor and publisher of zingmagazine, and a contemporary art collector (see the Dikeou Collection). LeFlore, the Public Arts Manager of Public Arts San Antonio (PASA)—the municipal public art program of the City of San Antonio—will discuss artist opportunities and strategies, including grant-writing. Markey of Lawrence Markey gallery (and member of the Artpace Board of Directors) will share insight into working with collectors and galleries.
Like all of Artpace’s programs, this Artist Workshop is free and open to the public. Call us at 210.212.4900 or email education@artpace.org for more information.
