Chalk It Up with us!

Artpace’s 9th Annual Chalk It Up festival takes place on downtown Houston Street on Saturday, October 13, 2012. We’ve already selected our Showcase and Feature chalk artists for the event to wow you with their original murals, and we’ve been busy prepping innovative creative projects with our Associate Educators for our Kidzones.
But Team Works artists also play a significant role in the event by creating an original design in chalk, rendered directly on a sidewalk “canvas” along Houston Street—and registration is still open. Team Works artists can be educators, students, and members of cultural and community organizations. The Team Works Registration Form is available online. Details and contact information are included on the document. The registration deadline is 5pm on Friday, September 14, 2012. (You will receive notice of your acceptance as a Team Works team by Wednesday, September 19.)
Chalk It Up is a free, family-friendly event that promotes the importance of art education and proudly exhibits San Antonio’s creative vivacity by providing hands-on activities led by professional art educators, as well as interactions with contemporary artists. Artpace remains passionate about giving people an opportunity to explore their relationship with not only contemporary art, but their hometown community. Chalk It Up 2012 is made possible by presenting sponsor Argo Group.

I been wondering about how to get involved with Chalk It Up! I participated in 2009 with a non-profit group once but since then I hav enot been successful in contacting the RIGHT PERSON on applying as an individual artist. I got the run around and when I heard about it in 2010 it was after the event took place and in 2011 nobody got back to me and it came and went again. Of course its about that time and I havent seen so much as an email. Who do you have to contact to be a participant????

Our Education and Public Programs departments issue a call for Chalk It Up artists during the summer to Bexar County residents. We also welcome inquiries through our Visitor Relations staff, who can always help direct callers and walk-ins to the right person here at Artpace. Alternately, you can email us at info@artpace.org with any questions or concerns. We hope this is helpful to you!

I work for THE RANGER news paper here at San Antonio college. I would really like to write an article about this event, so that students know of it and participate. Who can I talk to for further questions and perhaps some good quotes, to invite the alamo colleges students.
