From San Antonio to Santa Fe

Founding Chair Emeritus Jeanne Klein leads fellow Board members on a tour of site specific works by Andy Goldsworthy in Santa Fe, NM

There must be a pipeline between San Antonio and Santa Fe, as Artpace seems to have an ever-increasing number of friends in New Mexico. IAIR 00.1 artist Rebecca Holland hailed from San Antonio during her Artpace residency, but now makes her home in Santa Fe. And even if it’s not a permanent home, Artpace alumni fingerprints are everywhere: furniture by IAIR 10.3’s Roy McMakin fills one collector’s home; a drawing by Teresita Fernández was auctioned to benefit SITE Santa Fe at Auction SITE 2011 this summer; and Karma, a limited-edition Artpace artist multiple by IAIR 06.2 alum Do-Ho Suh resides in a prominent private collection.

Mary Heathcott
Surely you’ve seen Deputy Director Mary Heathcott around Artpace, as she’s been a regular fixture for more than six years (only Riley has her beat). A native Texan, she adopted the Midwest in the early ’00s as her home, but returned to San Antonio after getting a Master’s degree at the University of Chicago and cutting her teeth in the museum world at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. A self-proclaimed sandwich connoisseur, she recommends you order the Torta El Tacomiendo the next time you join us for Taco Friday.
