Glenn Ligon at LACMA
Glenn Ligon: AMERICA, the first mid-career retrospective celebrating the work of New York artist Glenn Ligon (IAIR 98.1) is now on display at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
LACMA is the second of three stops; the exhibition concludes its run at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in February 2012.
When AMERICA debuted at New York City’s Whitney Museum of American Art in March, it included 104 works, which LACMA has edited down to 79. In yesterday’s Los Angeles Times, “Culture Monster” Christopher Knight reviewed what he concluded was a “trenchant retrospective.”
The exhibition was curated by the Whitney’s Scott Rothkopf, who recently edited Ligon’s new book, Yourself in the World: Selected Writings and Interviews. If you are interested in reading it (the publication includes 10 essays and 12 interviews), stop by our Artpace Archive and Resource Library (AARL) and give it a read.
Glenn Ligon: AMERICA concludes at LACMA on January 22, 2012.
