Chalk It Up

Make art. Make a difference.

Artpace has a lot of ground to cover, and we invite you to join us.

On October 14, 2017, bring your family and friends to Artpace Chalk It Up, a festival of contemporary art, transforming Downtown Houston Street into a gallery – from the ground up.

Artpace Chalk It Up is first and foremost a fundraiser for Artpace’s educational programs. For more information about sponsorship, please click the “Support” tab above or contact Kathryn Conner at 210.212.4900 or

Artpace Chalk It Up is one of Artpace’s most important (and certainly the most fun!) fundraisers of the year. Support from Artpace Chalk It Up makes possible education initiatives like the Artpace Teen Council, a nine-month, paid program designed for San Antonio area high school students to become advocates for contemporary art and young leaders in their community. Additionally, Artpace serves thousands of middle and high school students through touring and outreach, and provides paid and unpaid internships for university students to gain invaluable experience working in a professional arts organization.

Team Works

Each year Team Works artists play a significant role in Artpace Chalk It Up by creating an original design in chalk, rendered directly on an 8 x 10-foot sidewalk canvas along downtown Houston Street. Team Works artists can be educators, students, and members of schools, universities, or non-profit cultural and community organizations.

Team Works registration for Chalk It Up 2017 will begin in August.

What do you need to know?

  • Artpace Chalk It Up takes place on downtown Houston Street on Saturday, October 8, 2016.
