Remembering Basquiat

Do you have any plans this weekend?

Might I suggest taking in a movie after you complete your to-do list (visiting Artpace, completing household chores, and catching up on “Project Runway”).

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the death of New York-based artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who rose to fame under the street art pseudonym of SAMO.

If you have yet to see the documentary The Radiant Child (2010), which chronicles the meteoric rise and tragic fall of one of contemporary art’s most revered talents, do the right thing and set aside the required 90 minutes. (Preview above.)

Netflix is offering The Radiant Child as a “Watch Instantly” selection.
