Semester Program kick off: DIY Photography

Artpace’s Semester Program launched today with 11 middle school students  at Washington Irving Academy, who will work for two months with an artist to make a public art installation for their school. The medium? Photography, and it’s DIY. Students will build their own film cameras from a kit of more than 40 parts.

We asked students why they wanted to be a part of this experience, and they said:

  • “…because I like my ideas to come true.”
  • “I love looking at art projects.”
  • “…because I like to see what the plot of a photograph is.”
  • “I like to create things out of my head.”

Looking forward to a semester of creativity; can’t wait to see these young artists’ ideas come true.
