The Texas Monthly connection

Question: If you, as a Texan, were asked to select the must-see piece of artwork available for public consumption in the entire Lone Star State, what would you select?

Utilizing the input of more than 60 museum directors, curators, gallery owners, critics, and historians, Texas Monthly tackles this question in the October issue currently available on newsstands.

Unfortunately, not one of the ten selected works resides in San Antonio. However, Artpace was spotlighted as one of Texas’s most worthwhile stops, and a handful of Artpace alums were listed in the magazine’s Texas art scene constellation: El Paso-based Margarita Cabrera (IAIR 08.1), Denton-based Annette Lawrence (HSR), and Houston-based Dario Robleto (IAIR 00.3).

If you like keeping score, here’s the count by city: Dallas (2), Fort Worth (4), Houston (3), Marfa (1).

Let us know, San Antonio.

How do you feel about Texas Monthly’s list?

Alas, my beloved McNay didn’t rate a mention. That’s really surprising since it quietly holds one of the best collections in the state.
