Look out weekend. zingmagazine’s Austin edition “zingrecs” have arrived in our email inboxes, highlighting the next week’s worth of gallery openings, art-related events, and live music recommendations made by the magazine’s editorial staff. (Although the listings are generally for Austin area happenings, Artpace’s Taco Friday in San Antonio holds a special honorary mention each week. Thanks, zingstaff.) There are also recommendation lists for Berlin, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, London, and New York. You can subscribe to or submit weekly zingrecs here.
zingmagazine was founded in 1995 by artist and collector Devon Dikeou (IAIR 11.1). Its feature pages are curated by contemporary artists and curators. Different disciplines are explored in each issue, from architecture, design, fiction, poetry, drawing, photography, video, music, fashion, as well as a special projects including books, posters, and CDs. According to editor and publisher Dikeou, “Lack of parameters or limits is the impetus, with the idea that the creative impulse, within each of the curators/disciplines, will produce individual projects both of the curators and the participants.”
The result is a fabulously artful publication filled with unique content that reads more like a print exhibition than a typical magazine. Issue 21 is coming soon. In the meantime, you can subscribe to the magazine, pick one up at a select bookstore, read one of ours in the Artpace Archive and Resource Library, or check out the new zingapp (free download!) for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch.
